I have been playing with the Primal Rights CPS primer seating tool. Conditions where not ideal this morning but I wanted to run the test at 1k. Even though the conditions where not very good, in my opinion the results certainly tell me primer seating depth does matter. I shot this with my 6BRA with a BR4 primer. Group size was effected as well as point of impact. Each .002' increment was worth about 1.5-2' in poi. I measured the pocket depth and the primer height to determine the 'crush'. .004' and .006' overlapped and held 2.7' of vertical for all 6 shots. We will continue to work on this and will share more as we learn it.
OK, I have a light varmint rifle in 6PPC. I have 50 fireformed brass that have been annealed after forming.
I have VARGET, H322, H4895, CFE223....also CCI 400 and CCI 450 primers....also Barts 68gr, Berger 68gr, Berger 64gr bullets.
Any tips where to start component=wise? I’m thinking get close to a load with the Barts, CCI450 and CFE223. Then try substituting powder. I’m thinking powder charge needs to be my first variable, then seating depth, then neck tension, then powder, then try other bullets.
That said, are one of the other powders a better starting point? Are CCI 400’s a better starting point?
